The call of the Goddess.
I didn’t understand.
I didn’t know why.
I just felt the pull in the depths of my belly and I responded.
Then before I knew it, I had my plane ticket and I was off to the island of Malta.
The Entire Island carries the Goddess energy and the Divine Feminine, you can see it as you fly over in the landscape, the curves abound in their abundant beautiful magnificence. Yes there are large built up areas but I could feel what lay beneath. There feels like So Very many temples in the land but they are buried, destroyed, built on top of, eroded, lost. It feels like the Patriarchal society and the religious regimes wanted to erase homage to Her but She is Still coded deep into the land. Only a handful of the temples are open or accessible now and I felt the sadness at the lack of respect to this Amazing strong, powerful feminine energy. Even a couple of years ago a new temple was discovered in the middle of a road when they were doing some works but it had already been damaged so they just covered it up again! These structures significantly predate both the Pyramids and Stonehenge and they are some of the oldest megalithic structures that we can see, how lucky and privileged we should be to experience these sacred sites.
The 2nd day of the trip, once we had arrived and settled into our beautiful hotel and the local area, we explored the Island. In the afternoon we went to the temples of Mnajdra and Hagar Qim. The temples sit by the ocean and the light and quality of energy was absolutely delicious.
As I walked towards Mnajdra I felt a familiar ancient processional energy and could feel so many others walking behind me. (There was actually only the 2 of us there) I asked permission to enter as it felt so Holy and sacred and Immediately I was told “Of Course you can enter, we have been waiting for you, you are so Very More than Welcome!” The energy was so happy, celebratory, upbeat and stunning, it was like a Really Jolly, Incredibly Loving and supportive Mother rather than the serious, sombre vibration I may have thought it would be!
I dropped into the space and fell into it all. In 1 of the temple spaces I put my crystal skulls on the floor and let them activate and do their work. I lovingly and respectfully placed my hands on the sandy floor and felt the sharing of codes and symbols between my energy and the temple. I asked permission to enter the Hypogeum the next day and to receive the appropriate experience and teachings there. I made a small stone sculpture in the countryside after I left to say thank you.
Then the day of the Hypogeum visit... I have been to Many temples in Many places and I must have skipped the bit in my reading which said this was not going to be like Mnajdra with a stunning ocean vista and all that! No the Hypogeum is in the Middle of Paola, in a street, under 4 old houses which UNESCO knocked down and built the visitor centre over!!! It is Very unassuming from the outside, just a little wooden door. To protect it, only 60 people per day are permitted to enter and there were only 9 in our little group.
The first part was a small exhibition which houses the original “Sleeping Goddess” statue that was found in the Holy of Holies. I could see the first level of the structure through the glass and Every molecule of me wanted to be in there and to descend down into Her. To begin with, I had to be the first one to enter, to lead the way. I listened to some of the music on the handheld device and this dropped me deep as it was so evocative of the energy of ancient people creating the space with their tools and also the rich deep resonant sounding in the “Oracle holes”.
Can you just imagine the time and skill it would have taken to carve out these 3 levels by hand with antler horns and primitive tools? They may have been primitive but the Beauty is incredibly breath-taking and it was very emotional. The lines and curves are absolutely Exquisite. I was amazed that the red ochre swirls remained after all that time. Soon I dropped to the back of the group. The tour is guided and each section the lights illuminate particular areas, I was able to hang back a little and fall into the dark blackness and experience the energies and to absorb it.
In the Holy of Holies I connected with the energy of the ancient Great Priestesses and respectfully asked if I was ready for my initiation, had I passed the appropriate tests. The energy almost laughed at me as it said how excited they were that I was there! Of Course I could receive a top up of energy and codes. I was More than Initiated in the ways of the Goddess and the Great Mystery already and they were actually wanting to learn from me and the energy that I could offer!!! I was More than a little stunned!!!
I wasn’t sure if I had already visited that particular site and had undergone my training there but it felt very complete. I felt the lineage. I felt so many who had walked this path before me. I could sense all these naked women covered in red ochre passing various tests and sleeping in the chambers in the dark. I could sense the dreaming of the Oracle and the speaking it out into the Oracle Holes. This place was used to burry Many Many thousands of people and yet I didn’t feel sacred in the dark, I felt at home and held by the space. I felt tingling.
Coming back out of the womb into the sunlight was like a rebirth. We then went to the Temples of Tarxien. Again, we were blessed to have the site basically to ourselves so I could luxuriate in More beautiful Goddess energy. I was fascinated by the spirals everywhere, the fire pits, the pitting techniques in the walls, the possible libation holes and the reliefs of animals – bulls and a sow with 13 piglets (13 is the number of the Goddess). In one of the areas they found the remains of a seven foot Goddess Statue which was thought to possibly be one of the oldest such sculptures in the world?
We also visited the neighbouring island of Gozo and the Ggantija Temples there. We got in before a tour party and although I felt a little more hurried, I still had time to sense the energies of this particular place as well and I felt really dwarfed and in awe of the massive structure. There is a sister site to the Hypogeum on Gozo but it is not open to the public.
On Gozo I also Loved exploring the area by the Azure Window. The power of nature and the sea was so very wild and raw and I could have listened to the crashing thunderous waves for hours and days and weeks, so very beautiful. We also went to the viewpoint at Calpso’s cave. This is the cave that Homer mentioned in `The Odyssey' where Calypso, a beautiful nymph, kept Odysseus as a `prisoner of love' for seven years. Calypso had promised him immortality if he stayed with her, but he escaped when he could, and returned to his wife Penelope. I do enjoy a bit of old mythology like that.
Overall, it was only a week but we crammed in so very much more and Really took advantage of our Malta Heritage pass to get us in so many fascinating places. The transport was Superb, for only 6.5 Euros, we got a weeks bus pass and used it to full advantage, just brilliant. One morning we went to a beach in the north and then decided to have lunch at a stunning fishing village in the south so we did! I Loved the walled city of Mdina and loved once again that we could explore the numerous streets and alleys with basically no one else there, which was such a luxury, I can imagine what it would be like in the summer time. This was one of the locations used for filming the 1st series of “Game of Thrones” and I could really sense the bustling Kings Landing experience!
I Loved Malta and I was so glad I heard and responded to Her call.
